State Police carried out plain-clothes checks of 16 different Dutchess County retailers that sell alcohol on Saturday, April 27. These checks were conducted to ensure the retailers’ compliance with New York State’s Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) laws.
The detail resulted in two arrests for ABC law violations:
Police say Donald Millard, 22, of Pawling is an employee of Family Quick Stop, located at 8 West Main Street in Pawling. Millard was arrested for prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage, a Class A misdemeanor.
Millard was ticketed and is scheduled to appear at the village of Pawling Court on Thursday, May 9.
Norberto Juarez-Mendoza, 35, of Amenia is an employee of Shell Gas Station, located at 5330 Route 343 in Amenia, according to police. Juarez-Mendoza was arrested for prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage, a Class A misdemeanor.
Juarez-Mendoza was ticketed and is scheduled to appear at the town of Amenia Court on Tuesday, May 7.
Underage drinking is associated with the three most common causes of death among youth, including accidental deaths (e.g., car crashes), homicides, and suicides, according to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. State Police say they will continue to conduct underage drinking enforcement details throughout the state in an effort to protect the citizens and youths of New York State.
During the detail, a total of 14 additional establishments in Millerton, Amenia, Dover, and Pawling were checked and found to be in compliance.
